Boiler & Burner Control & Protection Systems
Boiler & Burner Control & Protection Systems
The following describes how the automatic control system for the boiler in a combined cycle power plant works. The system includes the following control cycle which protects the boilers.
- Combustion control
- Feed-water Control
- Steam temperature control
- Remote / miscellaneous controls
— The main and primary element of safety system are transmitters.
Starting up the boiler, such as: turning it on or off, operation and managing the pumps, fans, valves, etc., is basically done via the local panel. Adjustments and controls such as combustion control (fuel and air flow), feed water flow (drum level control), steam temperature control from inside the central control room are done from the terminal points. In normal operation the adjustment and control system is automatically designed to perform the control operation, however, at the start of operation and when steam production is low (at a minimum), the control operation is performed by the operator.
Combustion control
Combustion control is designed to regulate the amount of fuel and air flow to keep the steam pressure steady within the standard range. This includes fuel and air flow control-except for oxygen-from the main boiler controller.
Feed-water flow control
The drum water level is controlled by the feed water flow regulator. Three main factors contribute to drum water control.
Steam temperature control in boilers
Outgoing superheat steam temperature control in boiler
This controller keeps the steam temperature at the desired level by adjusting the spray water flow, which is installed and injected between the primary and secondary super heater pipes.
Miscellaneous control
- Controlling steam pressure which atomizes mazut
- Controlling naphtha steam pressure
- Controlling the temperature of the air blowing out of the heater
- Controlling the water level in drain tank
- Adjusting the blowing turbine speed
Flame maintenance and control
Flame maintenance and control system is installed to ensure the operation and management of boilers and burners.
Boiler flame maintenance and control
Flame maintenance and control system is installed to ensure the operation and management of boilers and burners.
This set is configured in the DCS combined cycle plant.
